Overview:

WiMax is the commercialization of the work being performed by the IEEE 802.16 Working Group. 802.16 began with the goal of standardizing fixed microwave systems - and this really returns to the very roots of wireless, going back at least 60 years. WiMax eliminates at least some of the potential for confusion, and should result in at least some market growth.
