Overview:

Trying to determine the correct hardware configuration to support a Business Intelligence (BI) workload may be challenging. Therefore, HP has made available several documents to simplify the hardware selection process by documenting various configurations to support pre-defined workloads, which access various sized databases and/or OLAP cubes. This paper provides with an overview of traditional business intelligence architectures. In addition, it specifically addresses reference configurations for all three tiers in a typical business intelligence environment (Extract Transformation and Load (ETL), Relational Online Analytical Processing (ROLAP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) tiers) executing on an HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server. A short discussion on consolidating BI tiers is also addressed.
