What's coming into focus more clearly, however, is the fact that Open Source BI is - literally - embedded in the enterprise. Early adopters found that Open Source is much easier to embed in mission-critical applications, such as ERP, CRM, or Human Capital Management applications. Open Source BI products tend to be based on newer technologies and have easily accessible APIs for seamless integration with existing packaged and homegrown applications. This allows IT to use existing skill sets to create and deploy solutions more quickly and at less cost. When it comes to embedding BI into existing applications, there's no disputing that proprietary solutions can never be as open as Open Source.
