Overview:

Project Managers are more frequently finding high value in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) as they begin the process of project management. As an essential element of the Planning Process Group outlined in the PMBOK Guide - Third Edition, everyday practice is revealing with increasing regularity that creation of a WBS to define the scope of the project will help ensure delivery of the project's objectives and outcomes. The project manger will have constructed a Work Breakdown Structure that directly links to sponsoring documents, provides a basis for project schedule and process management, yet is designed to grow and flex with the changes that impact the project in a controlled and controllable manner.
