One wants to successfully manage IT risk? The first step is critical. One must first understand what it is trying to manage. An insurance company first engaged Contego knowing one thing - they knew they had no clear understanding of their security posture. This insight will list several elements necessary to manage an IT Risk Management program. Without first defining and prioritizing IT risks through some sort of security baseline-all other aspects are pointless. Certain foundational elements must be in place if the effort is to be successful. Key components to ensure success as follows executive level support, clearly identified risk management stackholders, a pre-existing security posture, open communication, a team approach to the process and holistic solutions, the authority to proceed.
