Overview:

In today's economic conditions, many IT organizations are looking for ways to reduce costs. One potential source of cost savings is the use of open-source technologies for non-mission-critical applications, which at first glance saves money by eliminating up-front software licensing costs. This paper looks in detail at how WebLogic Suite and open-source application server technologies (including JBoss EAP) compare along three of the most important dimensions for evaluating infrastructure software: cost, quality of service, and innovation. For each dimension it identified the highest priority requirements, shows a side-by-side comparison of capabilities addressing the requirements, analyze the value and costs for the two alternatives, and describe a relevant customer example.
