Overview:

Colleges and universities face a threat that most businesses do not. They are expected to provide access to students using their own computers. Unfortunately, young people are less likely to keep their computer up to date, to use antivirus and firewall software, and they are more likely to access risky websites or share sensitive information, according to research by Get Safe Online. The research reveals widespread ignorance about the basics of IT security. Sixteen percent of people say they know nothing at all about internet security. Every institution has to find its own balance between security and cost. IT departments in colleges and universities have many competing demands on their time and resources. However, the risks aren't going away.
