Overview:

Located in four sites across greater Cairo, Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology MCIT manages and coordinates all the telecommunications and IT needs of each of the country's 26 local school districts, known officially as governorates. Since MCIT did not wish to support expensive IT staffing at the individual schools, the agency required an easy-to-use routing solution that could be managed from a single central location at the MoE. MCIT wanted a company it could rely on for long-term partnership and extended development. After consulting with its VAR, Alkan Networks (http://www.alkan.com/networ.htm), MCIT conducted open tender and received bids from leading competitors. Having narrowed the decision down to 3Com or Cisco, the organization chose the 3Com solution for its superior price-to-performance ratio.
