Overview:

In order for News 4 WOAI-TV in San Antonio to provide viewers with accurate, timely information, the station must maintain contact with numerous highly mobile professionals who go wherever a story demands. When a natural disaster strikes, as when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast region in 2005, dependable communications become even more critical. Station personnel need to monitor the progress and safety of remote crews, who sometimes face extremely dangerous conditions in order to convey critical information that could be a matter of life or death for viewers or their loved ones. WOAI-TV equipped employees with a variety of Nextel Walkie-Talkie enabled devices, including i205 and 860 phones and a variety of BlackBerry handhelds, for instant communication just about anywhere, anytime.
